The inflatable insert and the outer cover are separate parts. Our experience of repeated insert punctures led us to try the 188 cm Bestway float described here.

After repeated insert failures, we tried a round Bestway pool float inside our existing St Moritz outer cover. It is an alternative inflatable insert; compare the delivered price and your model’s dimensions with a genuine replacement before buying.

The float we used is the Bestway 2-Person Inflatable Pool Island in the Fruits of Paradise design, 1.88 m (188 cm) across. The St Moritz model documented by Bestway has a 166 cm inner diameter. We used this combination under our existing outer cover; those dimensions alone do not establish a fit for every cover or model year.

What to compare with the official insert

• 188 cm Bestway Fruits of Paradise float — check the product size rather than relying on a similar-looking design.
• PVC construction and quick deflation for storage.
• An alternative we have tried inside our existing outer cover; hot-tub fit and insulation are our experience, not a manufacturer-approved specification.
• Compare the delivered price with the genuine insert; seasonal discounts can make the difference small.

Will it fit my Lay-Z-Spa St Moritz?

The St Moritz model documented by Bestway has a 166 cm internal diameter, while the linked float is 188 cm across. We have used this combination, but the float’s width alone does not prove it will fit every cover or model year.

Check the model number, internal dimensions and the space inside your existing outer cover before ordering. Lay-Z-Spa lists a genuine insert for St Moritz AirJet 2017–2021 and Santorini HydroJet; that shared genuine part does not establish the fit of a pool float on every model.

How to Fit the Bestway Float as a Lid Replacement

The swap takes about five minutes. Here are the exact steps:

• Order the Bestway Fruits of Paradise 2-Person Pool Island (188 cm) via our Amazon link above.
• Inflate the float according to its product instructions, using a suitable pump.
• Remove your old, punctured inflatable lid from the St Moritz. Keep the outer zip-up cover and thermal lid in place.
• Position the float inside your existing outer cover, as we did on our St Moritz. Check the fit on your model before closing the cover.
• Close the correct outer cover and secure its fastenings. Our use does not establish that the float provides the same insulation or lifespan as a genuine insert.
• When you open the tub, lift the outer cover and the float will come up with it (or just push it aside).

Does this really save money over the official lid?

Compare the prices available when you buy. On 10 September 2026, the linked Bestway listing showed £33.74 and Lay-Z-Spa’s genuine St Moritz/Santorini insert showed £39.99. That is a £6.25 difference before any delivery differences, rather than a guaranteed saving of two thirds.

Our own use prompted this alternative, but we have not measured comparative heating costs or established a lifespan that applies to other owners. Do not budget on it lasting a fixed number of seasons.

Is the Bestway float weather-resistant enough for UK winters?

We have used the float as an insert, but its product listing describes a swimming-pool float rather than a winter hot-tub cover. Follow the storage and temperature instructions for your particular spa and float. Check your model’s manual instead of assuming the same low-temperature rule applies to every Lay-Z-Spa.

Can I still use my outer thermal cover and lid with this?

Yes: this alternative concerns only the inflatable insert. Keep the correct outer cover and its fastenings in use. If those are damaged, replace them with parts suitable for your model; neither pool float linked here is a complete cover.
